Hello Neighbor -
My New Year's Resolution this year is to eat more healthy, plant-based food, not processed food. If you so desire, please join me, because in addition to the health benefits, I recently learned that the movie Soylent Green was set in 2022. And I don't want to take ANY chances! With the way the last couple years have turned out, the next thing you know, we'll see a new processed food product hit the market, named Soylent. Oh wait ... it's already here!
Hello 2022 ... let me introduce Soylent. The hot new meal replacement shake: https://soylent.com/. This is a real product. We are not endorsing or disparaging this product, just commenting on its ironic name.
Also, for those of you who do not know the reference, Soylent Green is a 1973 movie starring Charlton Heston. Loosely based on the 1966 science fiction novel Make Room! Make Room! by Harry Harrison.
In the movie, by the year 2022, the cumulative effects of overpopulation, pollution and a climate catastrophe have caused severe worldwide shortages of food, water, and housing (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent_Green)
So far, the plot is not too off-base from our actual 2022.
The Soylent Corporation produces the communal food supply of half the world and distributes wafters, including "Soylent Red" and "Soylent Yellow." Their latest product, "Soylent Green" is a more nutritious variant. Soylent Green is introduced as being made of plankton, but as the film unfolds, the main character discovers that it’s manufactured from dead bodies. The climax of the film contains the line “Soylent Green is people!” and this scene is one of the most famous in the movie.
